Planning your first Char Dham pilgrimage? Here is what to expect across Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.
The Char Dham Yatra is as much a journey inward as it is across the Garhwal Himalayas. Over about ten days you visit four revered shrines — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.
Pace and acclimatisation matter. The routes involve long mountain drives and, at Kedarnath, a trek (with pony, palki or helicopter options). Pack warm layers, comfortable shoes and any regular medication, and keep a day or two of buffer for weather.
